University of Chicago Post Doctoral Scholarships

As part of an effort to promote a diversity of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences among its faculty, the University of Chicago invites nominations and applications for the newly established Provost’s Career Enhancement Postdoctoral Scholarship (PCEPS). Successful candidates will be selected on the basis of academic achievement; scholarly promise; a demonstrable commitment to the ideals set forth in the University of Chicago Diversity Statement (http://www.uchicago.edu/diversity/zimmer.shtml). and the likelihood that the individual may become a qualified and competitive candidate for a faculty position at the University of Chicago upon completion of the Scholarship. Each cohort of PCEPS holders will include at least one scholar whose research furthers the missions of the Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture (http:// csrpc.uchicago.edu/). In addition to pursing their research, Scholars will teach one quarter-long course in their field for each year in which they hold a postdoctoral scholarship.

SALARY & OTHER SUPPORT: Each postdoctoral scholarship will carry an annual salary of $60,000 and an annual research fund of $5,000. Postdoctoral scholars will be eligible for designated health-care and other benefit plans through the University of Chicago Postdoctoral Researcher Benefit Program.

ELIGIBILITY: Candidates must have completed the Ph.D., M.D., J.D., or foreign equivalent by September 1, 2009 or be within three years of having completed that degree. Individuals currently holding a postdoctoral or faculty position at the University of Chicago are ineligible.

APPLICATION & NOMINATION DEADLINE: Individuals may become candidates by either self-nomination or nomination by any member of the University of Chicago faculty. Faculty members from other institutions should encourage promising candidates to apply via self-nomination. Applications and nominations will be accepted December 8, 2008 through January 23, 2009.
